Isobel Finlinson Williams, 78, passed away peacefully in her home on March 21, 1997 after an extended illness.
She was born on May 31, 1918 in Oak City (Millard County), Utah to Leo and Lydia Lyman Finlinson. She was sixth in their family of eight children.Raised in Oak City, Isobel had a happy childhood and learned her work ethic on the family farm, in their home, and in their store, the Oak City Cash Store. She attended school at Oak City Elementary and received a diploma from Delta High School. She attended Branch Agricultural College (Now Southern Utah University) in Cedar City, Utah, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Utah State Agricultural College (Now Utah State University) in Logan, Utah in 1940. She taught at Cedar Junior High School for two years.
Isobel married Rymal Graff Williams on August 2, 1941 in the St. George LDS Temple. They lived in St. Louis, Missouri and in Denver, Colorado, where Rymal completed medical school and took intern and resident training to become a physician and surgeon. They then returned to Cedar City, Utah, where he practiced medicine for over 45 years. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1995.
Rymal and Isobel had six children, all of whom live in Cedar City and survive them. They are Cynthia W. Dunaway; Roger F. Williams and wife, Karla; Tracey L. Williams and wife, Shirleen; Merrill F. Williams and wife, Marilyn; Sue Ellen W. Davis and husband, Paul; and Roland F. Williams and wife, Julie. Their posterity also includes 25 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Isobel is survived by a sister, Julia F. Bliss, Spanish Fork, Utah; and brother, Richard L. Finlinson, Mesa, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Ross M. Williams; and the following brothers and sisters, Maidie F. Arnold; Grant L. Finlinson; Virginia F. Moody; Clara F. Atkin; and L. Lyman Finlinson.
Isobel was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, and friend. The main focus of her life was the comfort and well being of her family and loved ones. She will be remembered for her compassionate nature and for her kindness to everyone.
Always an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served in many position, including Ward Relief Society president, counselor in Young Women, teacher in the auxiliaries, genealogist, and member of the Ward Choir. She was also a member of Kiwaniians, Knife and Fork Club, B.P.W., and Cedar City Drama Club.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 24, 1997 at noon in the Cedar Ninth Ward Chapel, 256 South 900 West. Visitation may be made at the Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 North 300 West, Sunday, March 23, 1997, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery.
