Julia Finlinson Bliss passed away Jan. 15, 2002 at the age of 81.
She was born in Oak City, Utah on Nov. 17, 1920, the daughter of Lydia Lyman and Leo Finlinson. She was educated in Oak City, grad-uated from Delta High School and attended college in Logan and Provo, Utah. She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1943 with a degree in Home Economics. She worked as a home economist for Utah State Extension Service in Iron, Beaver and Juab Counties for 1 1/2 years and taught Home Economics at Delta High School for five years. She married Ferron Lane Bliss April 3, 1946 in the Idaho Falls Temple and together they had four children. After taking a break from teaching to have her family and receive an elementary education certificate, she taught third and second grades for 25 years in Nebo School District. Music and church service were important to her. She served young people in many callings in Primary and Sunday School and served on the Spanish Fork Stake Sunday School Board. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang the lead in her high school operettas; she also sang solos and in small ensembles all of her life. She began singing in ward choir at age 14 and continued throughout her life. For several years she served on the Spanish Fork Library Board. Every child she ever taught in school was special to her.
She is survived by her husband and children: Julie Ann Hammons (Del Ray), Cottonwood, Arizona; Kathryn Bliss Holt (Barry), Las Vegas, Nevada; Paul Ferron Bliss (Stacy), Salem, Utah; Ronald Finlinson Bliss (Trina), Enterprise, Utah; brother Richard Finlinson, Mesa, Arizona; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the Spanish Fork Utah Stake 15th Ward, 1006 East 200 South. There will be a viewing Friday, January 18, 2002 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah, and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
